Great Day (天天好天)

Friday - 28th of January 2011
I went to Ipoh Parade with my friend from UTP to shop around for Chinese New Year goodies such as clothes and also books for our new semester. Since we had plenty of time to spare, we decided to watch this movie named Great Day (天天好天). We watched at 2.30pm.

This movie revolves around two old uncles in a old folks home in Perlis who always argue about how good their children towards them. In order to prove who's children is better, one of the uncle decided to go to KL to look for his children. Heartwarming and touching scenes were there altogether with funny moments too. This movie touches me because it emphasis on relationships among family members and the joy of togetherness especially during Chinese New Year.

Relationship between the grandfather and his granddaughter, The grandfather have breast cancer? The granddaughter always wanted to meet his grandfather
Relationship between the father and his son. They always fight to see who eats faster and the loser have to do house chores.
The casts of 天天好天. If we translate it, it means "Everyday is a Good Day"
At the end, I only bought on Red Hoodie home from Ipoh Parade.

STE Part 2

Soaring the Eagle - Part 2....
Let us continue....

Day 2: "My Fortress"

Main events include:

A psychology doctor came over to talk about
1. Balanced diet
2. Healthy lifestyle
3. Managing stress

After the talk, we recapped what we did on the previous days. We were asked to write down the key-words using alphabets of A to Z.

Then, we had activities on how to achieve success in life.
ub - Goal Clarity
U rge
C reativity and Continuous Improvement
C onfidence and Positive Thinking
E nthusiasm
S ingle Minded Persistent
S ees problem in Opportunity

These are the key words to help us success in life

Every group, Sprinta, Primax, Syntium and Mac 5 have to send representatives to participate in this event.
I and "Wait for it - Awesome" Atika was the representative of our group.
We sung the song "I lay my love on you - Westlife".
As usual, in this competition, we had Randy, Paula and Simon as the judges.
Moral of the event : Accept criticizes from people. We should not hurt other people's feelings.
Keyword : C.U.S.H.I.O.N

Me and Atika singing "I lay my love on you"
Judges time!
Group Primax won.
Khairil and Roy..

Day 3: "Leading the pack"

Today, our whole group, Group 2 were told to battle Group 1 in an outdoor game.
The game played is about a sinking ship with many passengers in it and we have to reach a safe point by using  very few pieces of planks only.
Moral value : We should help each other in life. Manage time properly.

Before the game started, again we recapped what we did one day before. This time we had to put the key points into a simple sketch or nursery rhythm.. My group, Sprinta came out with this rhythm of "Bla Bla Black Sheep" about nutritions. It sounds like this.

Eat, eat at STE. Have you any food?
Yes sir, yes sir, 3 good meals.
One in the morning, one in the afternoon,
and one in the evening and we are full,
with balanced diet. :D

Besides that, we also come out with our "Group 2 - Skyrider" cheer/yell/warcry. It goes like this.

Kopi O! Group 1 KO!
Coca Cola, Seven Up!
Go Sky Rider don't give up!

Ambare ambare wa ambare ambare wa
Oh mina mina! Ye ye ye!
Fasinya lawa lawa,
Budaknya gila gila,
Wa sama lu, lu sama wa,
Lu kalah, wa ketawa Ha!,
Macam mana? Ha! Ha! Ha!

We learned about 4C's

C are
C alm
C onfident
C ommitment

In what ever we do, we must have these 4C's as our principles in life.

Next, we must have a balance of PEACE and PERFORMANCE in our life in order to success.

Besides that, we shouldn't be JUDGMENTAL and should listen to others

We learned to cultures and diversities of people of different races. I learned so much about the cultures of my own race and also others.

Day 4: "He Mindful Heart"
We were briefed about the details of the scholarship.

Sharing sessions about :
1. respect our PARENTS

Registration Day and Day 1 in STE

STE or better known as "Soaring the Eagle" is a programme organized for all Petronas Scholars and I'm one of them. Currently, I'm in my hostel room using the wifi connection here to blog about my Registration Day and Day 1 here which had just ended moments ago.

STE (Soaring the Eagle)
Date : 8th January 2011 to 13th January 2011
Venue : PERMATA, Bangi

We started off the journey on the 8th of January. We were suppose to reach the place before 4pm and checked in by 6pm. At first, I was planning to take the train myself to KL but i changed my mind since so many decided to take the UTP bus here.

On the way

Photo's taken by Chung Wei Kiat along the way

Amazing Loh!!
The hostel room that I got was D102, together with 3 other people, Wei Kiat, Ming and Derek.

By 8.30pm, we had our dinner and had our first session which is the Introduction to STE and Ice Breaking Sessions. I got a nickname which sounds like this - "Victorious Vincent" which is easy to remember and has an adjective in front.

My nametaggie!

DAY 1 "Bringing the Focus"
The schedule for today was:
8.30am - 10.30am
-A Similitude
-The 4i Learning Model
-TWB Diamond

Here, we learned about the 4i's to build one's integrity;
-Involved, Inside, Implement, Internalize

Besides that, we also got to know our strengths and weaknesses through TWB Diamond (Total Well Being). We were divided into groups of 4 and I was in Sprinta Team. We had activities like finding out our goals using the TWB Diamond which is divided into 6 sections;
-Studies, Spiritual, Mind, Body, Relationship, Financial

Each team was also asked to perform a "War-Cry" which is called "Cheer" in my previous school. Not only that, we also played a brand new version of "One Two Sum", which is then called "Hang Lawan"
Hang Tuah (Warrior) wins Hang Rimau (Tiger)
Hang Rimau (Tiger) wins Hang Li Po (Princess)
Hang Li Po (Princess) wins Hang Tuah (Warrior)
In this game, we just have to act out the expressions of each of the characters above in order to beat other teams. My team, Sprinta achieved Runners-Up position.

10.45am - 12.45pm
-Where are you now?
-Where do you want to go?

Now, we were asked to visualize our future by drawing it out on a piece of A4 paper.
In addition, we are EACH given a EGG to protect just like my St John Camps last time. The difference is only that we EACH have to protect our own egg rather than a TEAM protecting one egg.

My egg with a gorgeous posture :D
2.00pm - 3.45pm
-Game of Life

We played a business and strategy game called X and Y. 4 teams were formed and each of us were just asked to vote X or Y.
If all voted X : X loses RM 1 million
If 3 voted X and 1 voted Y : X loses RM 1 million but Y gains RM 3 million
If 2 voted X and 2 voted Y : X gains RM 2 million but Y loses RM 2 million
If 1 voted X and 3 voted Y : X gains RM 3 million but Y loses RM 1 million
If all voted Y : Y gains RM 1 million
It is just a simple game and the team with most money wins after 11 rounds of bidding. My team, Sprinta won with RM80 million remaining while others with negative values :D

4.00pm - 5.45pm
-Financial Talk

This time, we were taught and discussed among each other how we manage our expenses and the RM500 given by Petronas monthly.

8.30pm - 10.30pm
-Public Speaking

Again, we were divided into groups and did our public speaking. The main purpose of this activity is to build our confidence and speaking ability. The 4 important criteria when doing public speaking is;
-eye contact, voice, information, gestures

2010 Year Review

Have you all encountered being bashed by assignments during Christmas Eve and Christmas and flooded with books during New Year's Eve and New Year? It was my first time. I was busy staying awake on a few nights completing my Calculus Assignment which turned up to be 10/10%. Even during New Year, I had to eat, sleep, loiter around etc etc with my lecture notes to get ready for my finals which had just ended hours ago (3 January 2011 to 6 January 2011). However, my friend, Lim Kai Xian and Chung Wei Keat did brighten my day on New Year's Day. We had a memorable first-day-of-the-year breakfast.

To begin with, I would like to apologize to you all for not updating my blog. I do admit that I sometimes feel very frustrated when bloggers do not update their blogs from time to time. My main intention for this post is to flashback my 2010's moments and clandestine, which I started doing since few years ago. Why not 2010 too?

Since I missed out wishing everyone Christmas and New Year, I would like to do a belated one :
Merry Christmas
Happy 2011 New Year

Flashing back 2010 moments now!. This time I prefer going through randomly and jumbling them up instead of going by months like few years back.

Started off by snubbing National Service at Bidor by entering Universiti Teknologi Petronas.
16th of January 2010 was the day I departed for UTP Orientation Week (MAS).

Together with me is my uni's Matrix Card - 14312

Hence, I finished my foundation year and will go into degree soon in 2011 instead of going Form 6 or A-Levels. Foundation year in Universiti Teknologi Petronas is divided into 3 semesters.

Semester I with 4 subjects (January 2010 - May 2010) :
-Chemistry I
-Physics I
-English I
To sum up with, I achieved GPA of 4 in this semester which meant that I scored straight A's in all subjects.
Dean's List Receiving Ceremony
Semester II with 4 subjects and a co-curriculum subject (May 2010 - September 2010) :
-Thinking Skills
-Moral Studies
-English II
-Modern Music
I refused to unveil my results for this semester. If I had not mistaken, only 2 person knew my real results. Others, I'm sorry I pretended as I was not telling the truth.

Semester III with 3 subjects (September 2010 - January 2011) :
-Chemistry II
-Physics II
The examinations just ended hours ago. I just hope for the best as I've already tried my best.

Apart from that, I get to experience Jungle Trekking when I attended the Team Building Camp in FELDA (29-31 October 2010). Although it wasn't my first time doing jungle trekking because I have already got the experience during Universal Camp III in 2009 but I do feel the fire in me is reignited after long extinguished during my St John days.
Random group photo from the camp
I guess my next post will be about the people i know in UTP. I will be stuck here for another 4 years but I felt that I'm already a BIG BOY now, grown up! Dependant and Reliable without parents. =]

I took part in events too in UTP such as Clearance Day. Photos taken during Family Day

Last but not least, one clandestine that I wanted to share is that UTP does not have PREFECTS!!
My hair can be longer than this.
