SilTerra Field Trip

15 March 2012

Today was a thrilled and exciting day. I had my first field trip of my course to SilTerra, Kulim which is a semiconductor manufacturing company. Weeks and months of planning had finally paid off with 30 of Electrical and Electronic Engineering students from my batch able to witness the company and the ongoing process of microchips production. This field trip was part of our Analogue Electronics I course subject and was guided by our lecturer, Dr Haris.

We departed from UTP at 5.15am and reached SilTerra, Kulim around 9am. We were greeted by Mr Tahir, from Corperate Department of SilTerra who gave us a Corporate Introduction of the company. Next, Dr Philip Tan gave us a technology overview speech and we bombarded him with multiples questions about microchips. Moving on, Madam Noor Shafarina gave us a talk on the opportunities in SilTerra and the ways to apply for an internship or employment in the company

After all the talks, 10 of selected Electrical and Electronic Engineering students from my batch including me were able to witness the Fabrication Tour. We were brought into the Fabrication Room and had to wear the 'thick-astronaut' costume as part of the procedure because the Fabrication Room has to be as clean as possible. The tour was guided by Mr Zambri.

After having lunch and bidding thank you and goodbyes to the friendly yet helpful authorities of SilTerra, we headed to one of my course mates house,as the Malays had to do their prayers. Before heading back to UTP, we stop by at Sunway Carnival for a walk.

Wrapping up, the trip was an eye-opening one and I've gained plenty of experience. Throughout this field trip, I've gained more interest in microelectronic field.

Eagerly waiting for the whole agenda to begin

Epic part of the trip is that, Ban Siong and me become undisputed and undefeatable champions of this game....

Perak Cave Outing

11 March 2012

My semester break was from 8 to 11 March 2012. However, I just spend 2 of my previous days at home which is on Saturday and Sunday. I was totally immersed by the event that I've joined, SEDEX29 whereby my job is to promote a science and technical project designing competition to primary and secondary schools around UTP.

On an entirely different land of paradise, I went to Gunung Lang and Perak Cave with Suit Li, Ivy and Wai Kit
We first met up and had our lunch at MP Steamboat, Ipoh Parade

Then we headed to Gunung Lang for a walk

Next we went hiking up the Perak Cave

With this, our mid semester breaks ended with fulfillment and joyously

B-u-s-y

11 March 2012

On a starting note, I have been really busy these few weeks dealing with my university stuffs and also event stuffs. Last month, I watch these 2 movies with my friends but I've no time to post about them. Anyways, it's better late than never.

'The Wedding Diary'. I watch this with Charles, Ivy and Yee Jie on 17th February 2012

'Ghost Rider - Spirit of Vengeance' - Watch this with Kar Nee on 19th February 2012

And I hadn't watch any movies since then. Currently, I'm having my semester break, but it looks like as though million tons of homework and work load are bestowed upon me.

On an entire different note, I had my Professional Communication Skills presentation last two weeks.
My technical poster presentation topic is 'Paper Currency - The Manufacturing Process'
My informative technical presentation topic is 'Solar Powered Water Heater'
I had these back-to-back presentations which makes me extremely exhausted.

This is how I look during the presentations

Both these slides are made myself last minute.

Moving on, I was also the Special Task Committee of an event I joined, Science and Engineering Design Exhibition (SEDEX29). My task was to promote the event and the competition, Youth Inventor's Category to primary and secondary schools around Perak - the same task I did last semester.

SMK St Bernadette's Convent students listening to my presentation. I was able to communicate with the students about their projects too. It was a wholesome experience for me.
