Registration Day and Day 1 in STE

STE or better known as "Soaring the Eagle" is a programme organized for all Petronas Scholars and I'm one of them. Currently, I'm in my hostel room using the wifi connection here to blog about my Registration Day and Day 1 here which had just ended moments ago.

STE (Soaring the Eagle)
Date : 8th January 2011 to 13th January 2011
Venue : PERMATA, Bangi

We started off the journey on the 8th of January. We were suppose to reach the place before 4pm and checked in by 6pm. At first, I was planning to take the train myself to KL but i changed my mind since so many decided to take the UTP bus here.

The hostel room that I got was D102, together with 3 other people, Wei Kiat, Ming and Derek.

By 8.30pm, we had our dinner and had our first session which is the Introduction to STE and Ice Breaking Sessions. I got a nickname which sounds like this - "Victorious Vincent" which is easy to remember and has an adjective in front.

DAY 1 "Bringing the Focus"
The schedule for today was:

8.30am - 10.30am

-A Similitude

-The 4i Learning Model

-TWB Diamond

Here, we learned about the 4i's to build one's integrity;
-Involved, Inside, Implement, Internalize

Besides that, we also got to know our strengths and weaknesses through TWB Diamond (Total Well Being). We were divided into groups of 4 and I was in Sprinta Team. We had activities like finding out our goals using the TWB Diamond which is divided into 6 sections;
-Studies, Spiritual, Mind, Body, Relationship, Financial

Each team was also asked to perform a "War-Cry" which is called "Cheer" in my previous school. Not only that, we also played a brand new version of "One Two Sum", which is then called "Hang Lawan"

Hang Rimau (Tiger) wins Hang Li Po (Princess)
Hang Li Po (Princess) wins Hang Tuah (Warrior)

In this game, we just have to act out the expressions of each of the characters above in order to beat other teams. My team, Sprinta achieved Runners-Up position.

10.45am - 12.45pm

-Where are you now?

-Where do you want to go?

Now, we were asked to visualize our future by drawing it out on a piece of A4 paper.
In addition, we are EACH given a EGG to protect just like my St John Camps last time. The difference is only that we EACH have to protect our own egg rather than a TEAM protecting one egg.

2.00pm - 3.45pm

-Game of Life

We played a business and strategy game called X and Y. 4 teams were formed and each of us were just asked to vote X or Y.

If all voted X : X loses RM 1 million
If 3 voted X and 1 voted Y : X loses RM 1 million but Y gains RM 3 million
If 2 voted X and 2 voted Y : X gains RM 2 million but Y loses RM 2 million
If 1 voted X and 3 voted Y : X gains RM 3 million but Y loses RM 1 million
If all voted Y : Y gains RM 1 million

It is just a simple game and the team with most money wins after 11 rounds of bidding. My team, Sprinta won with RM80 million remaining while others with negative values :D

4.00pm - 5.45pm

-Financial Talk

This time, we were taught and discussed among each other how we manage our expenses and the RM500 given by Petronas monthly.

8.30pm - 10.30pm

-Public Speaking

Again, we were divided into groups and did our public speaking. The main purpose of this activity is to build our confidence and speaking ability. The 4 important criteria when doing public speaking is;
-eye contact, voice, information, gestures
